We were delighted to welcome members of CAMRA Gwynedd & Môn to The Australia on Wednesday 9 September for their monthly branch meeting, with a little awards presentation thrown in for good measure.
Each month, the branch chooses a different pub from across Gwynedd and Anglesey to host its meeting, bringing together volunteers who give their time to champion great beer, support pubs and breweries, and promote real ale across the region.
This month's meeting took place upstairs at our Brewery Tap in Porthmadog, where Julie Taylor, Vice-Chair of CAMRA Gwynedd & Môn, and Clive Walmsley, Branch Chair, presented Purple Moose with our finalist awards from this year's CAMRA Champion Beer of Britain competition.
Three Purple Moose beers received recognition in the 2026 competition:
Glaslyn Ale – 🏆 Gold, Session Bitter
Dark Side of the Moose – Finalist
Elderflower Ale – Finalist
Dark Side of the Moose and Elderflower's finalist certificates were presented on the evening to Purple Moose Managing Director Lawrence Washington and Brewery Production Assistant Rick Penny.
Having three beers reach this stage of Champion Beer of Britain is something we're extremely proud of, but Glaslyn's result is particularly special. Our long-standing pale ale took Gold in the Session Bitter category, continuing a remarkable relationship with the competition stretching back over many years.
Awards are lovely to receive, but they're also a reflection of the consistency and care that goes into every brew, so congratulations go to the whole brewery team behind them.
A huge diolch to Julie, Clive and all the CAMRA Gwynedd & Môn volunteers for choosing The Australia for their meeting, for presenting the awards, and for the time they continue to give to supporting beer and pubs throughout our part of Wales. 🍻
The meeting also made good use of the upstairs area at The Australia. It's not reserved just for occasions like this either. Customers are always welcome to head upstairs to enjoy a drink or a meal, and the space is also available for private functions and gatherings.
